The Staff Clinician position at American University is a key role in promoting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students. As a member of the Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services team, you will provide professional mental health services, including crisis intervention, clinical intakes, and psychotherapy, to support students in achieving their goals.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement systems for follow-up with students who have been referred to community resources, including therapists, psychiatrists, and hospitals.
- Assist and support students in accessing community-based outpatient mental health services, in coordination with Center staff and other AU case management teams.
- Provide direct clinical services, such as individual or group counseling, crisis intervention, intakes, and consultations, to assess and address the emotional concerns of students.
- Collaborate with Center staff and campus partners in treatment and disposition planning for students with complex mental health needs.
- Participate in clinical training programs, including trainee selection, presentations, seminars, orientation, supervision, and evaluation.
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- Licensed or license-eligible as an independent mental health practitioner in the District of Columbia at the time of hire.
- 2+ years post-licensure experience with case management in a college/university counseling center, with a strong understanding of human development and the promotion of healthy growth.
- Experience working with a diverse student population, including students of color, international students, students with disabilities, and first-generation college students.
