Dredge Operator/Heavy Equipment Operator

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Dredge Operator/Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for performing underwater excavation duties on a variety of dredges deployed by GFL.
Key Responsibilities- Mobilization and Setup: Assist the shore-based team in offloading and setting up equipment, ensuring all dredging equipment and slurry pipe are mobilized correctly and efficiently.
- Production and Maintenance: Maintain production levels to meet project goals and deadlines, ensuring equipment is in clean and proper working order, and properly utilized for the material being dredged.
- Communication and Monitoring: Maintain clear communication with the shore team to ensure accurate volume of material and flow, monitor suction and discharge pressures to optimize machine performance.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Perform regular soundings of the post-dredged surface to ensure even and accurate dredge paths, and accurately log and monitor machine performance using GPS-based quantification systems.
- Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and hour-based preventive and some corrective maintenance of the machine being operated.
- Demobilization: Assist in the demobilization process, including disassembling, cleaning, packing, and loading of all equipment for removal from the job site.
- 3+ years of experience as a Dredge Leverman/Operator on cable driven, self-propelled, and conventional machines of 6-12 inch in size.
- Ability to fulfill schedule requirements and deadlines.
- Knowledge of reading and interpreting engineering design drawings, CAD drawings, and hydrographic drawings/models.
- Familiarity with HyPack/DredgePack is a plus.
- Current OSHA & MSHA certifications are a plus.
- Knowledge of small motor vessel operations.
- Knowledge of dewatering methods (mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).
- Knowledge of HDPE pipe fusion.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Mechanical knowledge of dredges.
- Ability to work out of town for 21+ days at a time, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Ability to work in extreme heat, extreme cold, and on the water.
- This is a 100% traveling position, requiring willingness to travel.
- Project durations may range from 1 month to 1 year+.
