Role Summary
The Accounting Manager is tasked with guiding and nurturing the Accounting team while managing the functions of the Accounting Department. This includes ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting standards, practices, and regulatory obligations.

- Oversee the operational functions of the Accounting department, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; and addressing issues.
- Manage the Payments team, overseeing functions such as ACH transactions, domestic and international wire transfers, and electronic funds transfers, while ensuring adherence to policies and risk evaluation.
- Facilitate effective communication, training, coaching, and mentoring for all team members to enhance engagement and ensure alignment with the credit union's goals.
- Supervise and coordinate month-end processes to guarantee the accuracy of accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other financial items necessary for accurate monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Analyze financial data related to assets, liabilities, and capital, overseeing the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports summarizing the credit union's financial status.
- Assist in the annual budget preparation by engaging with stakeholders, inputting data, and forecasting costs to ensure accurate calculations of expenditures, income, shares, and loans across various business units.
- Review and approve all general ledger reconciliations as required, utilizing appropriate tools for this purpose.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to prepare necessary documentation and respond to inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Contribute to the strategic planning process for the credit union.
- Participate in project implementation, providing accounting and operational insights to ensure efficient and effective project completion.
- Focus on process improvements and innovations.

Education
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
Experience
Five to ten years of managerial experience in a financial institution, preferably a credit union.
