Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to join our team at Academy Sports + Outdoors. As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for leading the procurement and merchandising efforts for our retail operations, ensuring that we deliver high-quality products to our customers while maintaining a competitive edge in the market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building a Competitive Assortment
    • Develop and implement strategies to build a competitive assortment that meets our sales and profitability goals.
  • Managing Open to Buy
    • Manage the Open to Buy process to ensure that sales, margins, turns, and profitability are within plan.
  • Vendor Performance and Negotiation
    • Analyze vendor performance and negotiate all aspects of profitability, including VAs, RTVs, and off-price buys, to maintain margin expectations.
  • Product Flow and Inventory Management
    • Partner with the planner to manage product flow and inventory levels, ensuring that we have the right products in the right quantities at the right time.
  • Advertising and Promotions
    • Oversee advertising for assigned categories, including item selection, layouts, and proofing, to ensure that our ads are effective and engaging.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead and develop a team of Buyers, Associate Buyers, and Assistant Buyers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and succeed in their roles.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • At least five years of related work experience required.
    • Three years of management experience preferred.
    • Seven years of related work experience preferred.

    • Teach and mentor Buyers, Associate Buyers, and Assistant Buyers on analyzing, buying, inventory management, open to buy, imports, and logistics.
    • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn retail management system software programs.

  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Domestic travel required.
