As a Surgical Assistant at Christus Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical teams. Your primary responsibility will be to assist surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures, providing essential support to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures, providing exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other technical functions as needed.
- Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate proper patient care, including preparing patients for surgery and assisting with their transfer to recovery.
- Apply knowledge of surgical procedures and techniques to assist with tasks such as incision and layered closure, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis, and applying appropriate energy sources.
- Assist with the safe positioning of patients according to surgeon preference and patient anatomical and physiological limits.
- Perform additional duties as delegated by the surgeon, including vein and graft harvesting, and graft and implant preparation, under the direction of a qualified surgeon.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assist Program, State Board accredited Vocational School of Nursing, or Graduate of School of Surgical technology required.
- 2 years of Surgical Tech experience preferred.
- BLS required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant required.
- ACLS preferred.
