About the Role

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a skilled Steam Fireman to join our team at Tewksbury Hospital. As a Steam Fireman, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining boilers and related auxiliary equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the CoGen plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulate controls, open and close valves, and adjust fuel flow to ensure proper temperature, pressure, and steam pressure.
  • Read meters and gauges to monitor fuel levels, water levels, and other critical parameters.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on boilers, power plant equipment, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Record data and maintain logs on fuel consumption, meter and gauge readings, and other relevant metrics.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless operation of the CoGen plant and steam heating and distribution systems.

Requirements

  • Current and valid First or Second Class Steam Fireman's license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions, including specifications, technical manuals, plans, and drawings.
  • Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and dealing tactfully with others.
  • Physical stamina, including the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and lift/carry heavy objects.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including skills in pipe threading, fitting, and soldering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a hospital and/or campus setting working with multiple disciplines and vendors.
