Responsibilities:

Job Summary / Purpose:
The Clinical Laboratory Technician primarily operates within the specimen processing and intake sector of the laboratory. This role involves assisting with specimen management and various clerical tasks as required. Responsibilities may include blood collection and specimen processing, as well as conducting waived or moderately complex testing in accordance with local and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures accurate patient identification in all tasks.
- Demonstrates kindness and professionalism in all interactions with patients and colleagues, fostering effective communication within the department and across the organization.
- Takes initiative in managing departmental workflow, supporting team members to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
- Processes laboratory specimens systematically for distribution, ensuring timely movement to testing departments.
- Manages laboratory send-out testing, including organization and packaging for external laboratory analysis as per established protocols.
- Applies sound judgment in problem-solving and seeks assistance when necessary.
- Performs phlebotomy procedures, adhering to blood collection protocols for diverse patient demographics, including both inpatient and outpatient populations.

Utilizes proper techniques to secure quality samples while meeting volume requirements.


- May assist in training new phlebotomists under supervision.

In compliance with local and state regulations, may conduct CLIA waived and moderately complex laboratory tests following detailed technical guidelines.


- Evaluates and reports test results under the guidance of a Clinical Lab Scientist, ensuring result validity through quality control measures and instrument performance assessments.
- Conducts routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and maintains accurate records as trained.
- Monitors inventory levels of departmental supplies and assists in restocking, completing necessary reagent logs.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED

Required Certification and License:
- BLS-CPR certification upon hire/transfer

Preferred Certifications:
- Certification from a Lab Assistant Program
- Certificate from a Phlebotomy Program

Preferred Experience:
- At least 6 months of experience in an acute care environment

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training:
- Strong customer service and time management skills
