Position Overview:
Metro Health (now the University of Michigan Health-West) is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapist RRT is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care services to patients experiencing respiratory function deficiencies and abnormalities.
Key Responsibilities:
The Respiratory Therapist is tasked with conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Utilizing their educational background and clinical expertise, they also serve as educators, mentors, Lead Therapists, and consultants for clinical respiratory interventions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Respiratory program
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential OR Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan
- BLS certified
- ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
- PALS certification within 6 months of hire for all therapists working inpatient
- NRP certification within 6 months of hire for all therapists working inpatient
Essential Functions:
- Assist with artificial airway management
- Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Patient Assessments, making recommendations for all respiratory patients
- Monitor pulse oximetry and electrocardiograms
- Participate as a member of the Rapid Response and Emergency Response Team
- Provide both invasive and non-invasive mechanical support
- Administer humidity and oxygen therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy, breathing exercises, and aerosolized medications
- Draw and analyze blood gas samples to assess oxygen, carbon dioxide, and acid-base balance
- Document procedures in accordance with department and hospital policies, including patient education and care plans
- Assist with bronchoscopies and manage patient transports
- Engage in the department's Quality Management Process
- Serve as a clinical instructor for respiratory therapy students
- Attend mandatory meetings and educational programs
- Conduct specialized bedside monitoring and perform specific tests related to Pulmonology RRT
Additional Duties:
Maintain a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursue self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participate in committees and task forces as determined by management.
