Medical Assistant

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in the examination and treatment of patients, working under the direct supervision of a clinic physician.
Responsibilities include conducting patient interviews, measuring vital signs, and recording information on patients' Electronic Medical Record (EMR). You will also draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
In addition to clinical tasks, you will perform administrative duties such as registering and scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, and other tasks using various registration and scheduling systems.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare patients for clinic visits by obtaining vitals and entering data into the EHR
- Accompany patients to assigned exam rooms and obtain patient HPI
- Update active problems and medication lists, and update allergies and past surgical and medical history
- Communicate brief summaries of reason for patient visits to providers
- Assist providers with patient care, including injections, EKGs, spirometry, procedures, dressing changes, wound care, etc.
- Enter standing orders for providers when patient load on schedule demands additional data entry support
- Reinforce patient education and instructions at conclusion of visits
- Assist patients in scheduling follow-up appointments
- Direct patients to PCT/Referral Coordinator when outgoing referrals are ordered by providers
- Work with residents and clinic attending(s) to maintain a timely flow of patients
- Exhibit competency with technical skills and EHR documentation
- Exhibit professionalism by maintaining a positive working relationship with patients, providers, and employees
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Basic Life Support certification
- Working knowledge of computers and electronic medical records
- Phlebotomy skills
- Two or more years of experience in an ambulatory care setting
