Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Pipe Layer to join our team at the City of Jeffersonville. As a key member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for installing and repairing sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare sewer pipes for installation, including aligning and positioning for sealing, connecting pipe pieces, and sealing joints.
  • Prepare trenches and install sewer pipes, including laying out pipe routes, cleaning and preparing sites, and erecting scaffolding.
  • Locate and repair or replace existing sewer pipes, using magnetic or radio indicators.
  • Assure safety of work site, including operating and maintaining air monitoring and other sampling devices.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of construction experience with a minimum of 1 year experience in pipe laying.
  • Basic knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, procedures, and equipment used in construction field.
  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications, tape measure, and technical drawings.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, such as a backhoe, excavator, front-loader, fork-lift, mini-excavator, and other equipment as necessary.
Work Environment

The work environment for this position will require the ability to work in extreme weather conditions, such as wind, rain, snow, ice, thunderstorms. Exposure to temperature extremes, high work places, noises, toxic materials, and vibrations.
