Job Summary

St. Joseph Church is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of our church and school facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain assigned areas of the church and school, including classrooms, hallways, washrooms, and offices.
  • Inspect and clean walls for graffiti and markings.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist grounds personnel as needed.
  • Conduct scheduled monthly, semiannual, or annual janitorial duties, such as floor waxing, painting, window washing, and carpet cleaning.
  • Provide set-up and cleaning services for evening or weekend activities as directed by the Facilities Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physically strenuous activities related to maintenance and yard work.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to climate change, uncomfortable temperatures, and work-related fumes.
  • Ability to work with equipment requiring considerable caution.
  • Must possess necessary janitorial skills and have the ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Must be self-motivated and have some general knowledge of janitorial supplies and their applications.
  • Must be a person of integrity who respects private property and takes responsibility for the property assigned to them.
  • Maintains regular hours, but this position requires frequent evening and/or weekend hours and some holiday work.
