GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the guidance of the Fleet Manager, this position involves skilled tasks related to the upkeep of all municipal vehicles and heavy machinery.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Responsible for the upkeep and repair of all municipal vehicles and equipment assigned to various departments and divisions.
Implements and supervises a preventative maintenance program to ensure cost-effective servicing and a scheduled maintenance program adhering to manufacturer specifications.
Maintains a comprehensive inventory system by documenting all expenses and income related to each vehicle, maintenance equipment, fuel, repair parts, supplies, etc.
Analyzes vehicle and equipment usage to monitor user departments and evaluate equipment specifications.Enforces municipal safety protocols and ensures staff receive necessary safety training.
Assists in formulating the Fleet Services budget, reviewing past expenses and income.
Collaborates with the Purchasing Agent to manage and oversee all Fleet Service acquisitions, including parts, tools, and office supplies.
Works with the Purchasing Agent to aid municipal departments in developing specifications for vehicles and equipment; coordinates the procurement and delivery of vehicles and equipment to all departments; ensures all procured vehicles and equipment are licensed and registered in accordance with state law.
Performs welding; replaces and repairs parts; troubleshoots electrical systems; diagnoses vehicles for minor body repairs and fender work; conducts tune-ups and engine overhauls; resolves issues as necessary.
Reviews reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment serviced; documents repairs performed on vehicles and equipment. Submits monthly reports to relevant authorities on state inspections.Keeps detailed maintenance and repair records; conducts preventative maintenance on all municipal vehicles.
Ensures operational efficiency and productivity within the fleet department by assessing repair times and costs to identify efficiency improvements.
Responsible for maintaining positive relations with all user departments.
Oversees the development of all fleet specifications.
Coordinates the sale of surplus equipment with all municipal departments.
Assists the Finance department to ensure all vehicles and equipment are accurately assigned and tracked in Fixed Assets.
Installs all emergency lighting packages on vehicles and equipment, including police vehicles' lighting, radios, computers, cages, dog kennels, and all associated equipment.
Assumes additional responsibilities and completes other tasks as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred coursework and certification in automotive and equipment mechanics from a trade school.
ASE certifications are preferred.
Minimum of 6 years' experience in automotive mechanics is required.
Preferred 3+ years' experience in municipal fleet repairs.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
A CDL license is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities are essential.
Excellent time management skills are required.
A positive attitude and ability to collaborate with diverse individuals at various levels.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Must be adept with email and internet usage.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
Strong customer service orientation, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities are required.
Must demonstrate excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
