Global Leader in EHS for Biologics

Position Overview
The Global Leader in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for the Biologics sector is tasked with defining EHS performance targets and fostering ongoing enhancements throughout the Biologics platform. This individual will act as a Subject Matter Expert in the development and execution of Biological Safety programs. The role includes oversight of internal facilities, Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD), as well as third-party suppliers and contract manufacturers. Reporting will be to the Global EHS Lead, with a dotted line to the Biologics Platform Leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute strategic global EHS initiatives by collaborating with relevant platforms.
- Deliver hands-on assistance and effective communication to site leadership teams within the platform.
- Lead a network of site EHS leaders to enhance EHS performance, tracking and reporting progress.
- Conduct periodic process confirmation exercises in collaboration with the platform and sites.
- Work alongside business lines and site leadership to ensure that sufficient resources are allocated at sites to uphold EHS compliance, manage EHS risks, and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Establish appropriate KPIs and EHS objectives to encourage continuous improvement in EHS practices.
- Assist the platform and relevant sites in collaboration with the Zoetis Business Continuity Plan (BCP) lead and Risk Management & Insurance to ensure effective management of BCP Programs and FM Global recommendations.
- Act as the EHS BioSafety representative to determine Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and Occupational Exposure Banding (OEBs), develop technical guidelines, and support primary and operational risk assessments.
- Conduct EHS evaluations of third-party suppliers and oversee necessary EHS enhancements in line with risk management protocols.
- Enhance EHS capabilities at selected third-party suppliers and participate in internal and external EHS audits as requested by the Global EHS Audit Lead.
- Review and approve capital projects from an EHS perspective and perform EHS assessments for significant business decisions.
- Engage in the development of joint ventures and acquisitions, proposing and overseeing the EHS strategy for each acquisition.
- Support acquisition and divestiture processes with a focus on due diligence.
- Provide EHS integration and onboarding assistance for new sites and new site EHS leaders being incorporated into the specific platform.
Organizational Relationships:
- Preferred knowledge of life sciences and animal health business operations.
- Required experience in manufacturing site EHS management, demonstrating a strong track record of EHS performance.
- Experience in developing and implementing Biological Safety programs.
- Desired corporate EHS management experience with expertise in managing global initiatives.
- Preferred experience across various risk management functions, including environmental, occupational health and safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, and process safety.
- Required matrix reporting experience, with site EHS leaders reporting directly to their respective Site Leaders and having a dotted line to the EHS Platform Lead.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, health and safety, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in EHS; an advanced degree in EHS or risk management is preferred.
Technical Skills Requirements:
- A proven leader with a consistent record of EHS performance, demonstrating expertise in principles, methodologies, and the successful implementation of EHS culture.
- Strong understanding of global EHS regulations, Biological Safety, and Management Systems.
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement effective compliance programs in large and/or complex organizations.
- Proven agility and capability to work effectively across a complex organization.
- A strong history of influencing stakeholders and EHS professionals to achieve results and continuous performance enhancement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong organizational development capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in the organization outside of formal authority to achieve organizational objectives and resolve issues.
- Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is required.
- Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, travel, and have the flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time is essential.
