About the Role

As a Private Wealth Services Tax Director at Grant Thornton, you will lead the team's production of primary and secondary reviews of complex tax returns and provide income, estate, and gift tax planning strategies for high net worth, closely held business, and family business clients.

You will collaborate with the Private Wealth Services Tax team and make recommendations on return preparation and tax savings opportunities, focusing on accuracy, quality, and client service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing tax planning and consulting to high net worth clients for estate, wills, and trusts taxation, and individual income taxes.
  • Interacting closely with clients' other advisers, such as attorneys and financial asset managers.
  • Attracting and mentoring talented professionals.
  • Overseeing the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements.
  • Planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects in a wide variety of industries.
  • Providing innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients.
  • Marketing, selling, designing, and implementing tax-planning strategies for clients.
  • Managing to budget.
  • Developing and maintaining new business and client relationships.
  • Managing, developing, training, and mentoring staff on tax projects.
  • Assessing performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
  • Researching and consulting on various tax matters, primarily in the federal estate, gift, charitable planning, and generation-skipping tax arenas.
  • Utilizing tax-related software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters.
  • Responding to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Maintaining active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure deadlines are met, and enhance client relationships.
  • Leading and supporting business development activities, such as identification, proposal development, and other pursuit activities at clients.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting - CPA or licensed member of the Bar or Enrolled Agent designation (with Masters Degree) required.
  • Minimum ten years of progressive tax compliance and/or consulting experience in Family Wealth Planning or related area in public accounting or a combination of industry and public accounting experience.
  • Experience in dealing with family units with $25 million and above in net worth, and a proven track record of implementation of tax strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
  • The ability to travel as needed.

Base salary range for this position in the firm's Newport Beach, CA office is between $158,000 and $263,300.
