POSITION SUMMARY

The Breast Imaging Specialist is responsible for operating mammography, radiology, fluoroscopy, and DEXA equipment to capture high-quality images for evaluation by the radiologist. This role involves performing both routine and advanced imaging procedures using both fixed and portable imaging technologies. The specialist ensures the quality control of imaging devices and maintains radiation safety protocols for patients, visitors, and staff. They assist in interventions as required and address patient inquiries with compassion and clarity. The specialist also informs patients about the latest advancements in women's health and provides relevant resources. Continuous professional development in mammography is essential, with a requirement to perform a minimum of one hundred mammography exams annually.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Current California Radiological Technologists (CRT) licensure in Radiological Technology and Mammography is mandatory.
  • National American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) licensure is highly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Continuing Education (CE) requirements must be up to date.
  • California Fluoroscopy license is necessary.
  • A.S. degree or Completion Certificate from an accredited Radiological Technology Program is required.
Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with Department of Human Services (DHS) and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations is essential.
  • A minimum of one year of independent mammography experience is required.
  • Completion of at least one hundred mammography exams per year is mandatory. Experience with DEXA scans is preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems is necessary.
Skills:
  • Strong work ethic and professionalism.
  • Excellent interpretive skills are required.
  • Expertise in mammography techniques, positioning, and patient interaction is essential.
  • Awareness of women's health issues is important.
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure is crucial.
