POSITION OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of a physician, the Pediatric Perfusionist plays a crucial role in the selection and setup of various extracorporeal support systems for pediatric and adult patients facing surgical interventions for congenital, acquired, and traumatic conditions.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
A degree from an accredited Perfusion School with a bachelor's in a relevant scientific discipline is essential.
A passion for pediatric care is necessary, with prior experience being advantageous. New graduates must hold a provisional license pending the successful completion of the ABCP examination. It is mandatory to pass this exam within a year of employment to achieve CCP credentials.
Comprehensive understanding and proficiency with perfusion and surgical apparatus; a solid grasp of anatomical and surgical technology, coupled with exceptional manual dexterity in operating essential equipment.
- Capability to maintain composure during emergencies and lengthy procedures.
- Commitment to clinical excellence and optimal patient outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively and foster teamwork.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to identify and address discrepancies and unusual circumstances that may occur.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligibility for certification is required.
Licensure as a Perfusionist by the Texas Medical Board or fulfillment of requirements to obtain such licensure.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
