About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fluid & Mechanical Supply Chain Engineer II to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Operations department, you will play a critical role in enabling and supporting the application of critical hardware in the design of our New Glenn launch vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with suppliers to resolve technical issues, develop sustainable manufacturing processes, and mitigate technical risks to maintain critical schedules and ensure requirement conformance.
  • Own technical risk identification and mitigation strategies at the supplier, as well as engage in failure investigations and RCCA activity as needed.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and integration teams, and supply chain teams, to develop and release product statements of work (SoWs), specifications, Supplier Data Requirement Lists [SDRLs], and other product development artifacts relevant to external fabrication.
  • Coordinate with supply chain management and partner with contract manufacturers to negotiate, plan, execute and deliver Fluid and Mechanical products (including End Item Data Packages [EIDPs]) in alignment with program business and technical goals and procurement timelines.
  • Strengthen vendor relationship by communicating program business and technical product development information and changes to suppliers, while also conveying supplier capabilities, performance and execution to engineering teams and management.
  • Create and coordinate the demand signal for hardware purchases, partnering with supporting functions including Supply Chain Planning, Production Control, Fulfillment, Accounts Payable, and Supplier Quality to facilitate order placement and product delivery.
  • Schedule regular status meetings with suppliers to monitor performance, address risks, resolve issues, track execution and ensure quality product design and manufacturing processes, incorporating DFX feedback where appropriate.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal product test teams, contract manufacturer and contract test house to plan and conduct product functional, acceptance and qualification testing.
  • Drive IPTs by managing scope changes, deviations, and schedule adjustments, serving as the primary supplier contact, and guiding supplier selection based on strategic criteria by working with the commodity managers team.
  • Manage suppliers for critical components like Valves, Pressure Regulator, COPVs, Accumulators, Actuators, Pumps, ensuring rigorous technical and supply chain coordination, risk management, and adherence to schedule and cost expectations.
Requirements
  • B.S. Degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, or materials engineering
  • 2+ years of directly related experience
  • Has worked with product development teams to define, scope, and prioritize design requirements to ensure operational and manufacturing success.
  • Experience in hardware development and manufacturing of complex electronic assemblies
  • Experience in technical management of suppliers
  • Experience in implementation of DFx principles in an outsourced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent Communication Skills - Ability to articulate technical problems to non-subject matter experts
  • Experience with fault tree analysis and value stream or process flow mapping
  • Ability to learn, grow and tackle new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment, including preparing specifications, test reports, and design substantiation documentation
  • Has managed planning and technical aspects of product builds through the full product life cycle
  • Has demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and replicating build to prints well as subsystem acquisition best practices across a complex supply chain
  • Experience in concurrent design and manufacturing as well as the associated risk management in a highly fluid environment
