About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Distinguished Engineer to join our team at Capital One. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for driving innovation and technical excellence across our platforms.

As a Distinguished Engineer, you will be a trusted advisor to our technology leadership team, providing strategic guidance on the development and implementation of our technical vision. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define and deliver complex solutions, leveraging your expertise in cloud computing, enterprise architecture, and software engineering.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and communicating a bold technical vision for our domain
  • Decomposing complex problems into practical and operational solutions
  • Ensuring the quality of technical design and implementation
  • Serving as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability, and operability
  • Continuing to learn and inject advanced technical knowledge into our community
  • Handling multiple projects simultaneously, balancing your time to maximize impact
  • Acting as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in Software engineering or solution architecture
  • At least 7 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns
  • At least 5 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience using at least one of the following: Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, etc.
  • 7+ years of experience in Data Lakes and Data warehousing
  • 5+ years of experience in handling Realtime and Batch data processing (Python, Spark, Kafka, Delta libraries, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience with AWS services (AWS Glue, Fargate, Lambda, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience with building REST APIs
