Nurse Supervisor

The Nursing House Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care by effectively managing the activities of the total patient care services during their assigned shift. In the absence of the Administrator and/or designee, the Nursing House Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the Administrator-on-Call.
Key Responsibilities:- Execute hospital/nursing policies, procedures, and standards with precision.
- Conduct regular visits to patient care units to assess patient conditions, evaluate staffing needs, and provide support to caregivers.
- Utilize effective pain management techniques, educate patients and families, and assess and reassess pain.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients by performing all aspects of patient care and reducing the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Effectively distribute and utilize personnel employed during the respective shift.
- Coordinate and evaluate services rendered by and to all departments during the respective shift on an ongoing basis.
- Keep the Nurse Executive, Administrator, and/or their representatives informed regarding circumstances or situations with serious impact.
- Exercise good judgment in ensuring adherence to established hospital procedures and policies.
- Inform personnel on ensuing shifts regarding patient conditions, follow-up actions required, and any special conditions.
- Participate in various committees and assist in planning and providing inservice education programs.
- Participate in patient care meetings and in-service education functions.
- Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Evaluate and document employee performance as indicated and communicate this information to the Patient Care Manager.
- Assume duties outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Manual.
- Follow Pharmacy protocols for obtaining drugs when the Pharmacist is unavailable.
- Evaluate the accuracy of staffing systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holds current licensure in the state as a registered professional nurse.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
- Experience as a staff nurse and manager.
