Job Description

The Hubbard Hill Estates is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lab Coordinator/Phlebotomist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining blood specimens and transporting nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the daily flow of lab orders through scheduling, drawing labs, transporting to contracted lab, managing supplies, and assuring timely results.
  2. Maintain and post a lab schedule for Rehab, Healthcare, Assisted Living, and Living Wisdom Center.
  3. Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little resident discomfort as possible.
  4. Assure lab requisitions are completed with an appropriate diagnosis.
  5. Have knowledge of diagnosis codes and which labs they correlate with.
  6. Identify resident prior to venipuncture.
  7. Display courteous, professional manner towards residents and co-workers.
  8. Label and record all test tubes.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of color top tube to use, volume of blood needed, and test requirements.
  10. Follow standard precautions at all times.
  11. Dispose all sharps in a sharps container.
  12. Maintain clean work area.
  13. Order and maintain sufficient supplies.
  14. Transport lab specimens to contracted lab timely.
  15. Participate in after-hours/weekend/holiday rotation as needed for STAT labs.
  16. Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner.
  17. Maintains clinical skills and knowledge necessary to perform phlebotomy services.
  18. Implements and interprets organizational policies and procedures, and clinical standards and regulations.
  19. Participates in surveys/inspections made by authorized government agencies.
  20. Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certification or training program completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
