Job Description

  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas daily, adapting lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Develops and implements curriculum, lessons, and special education programs, ensuring alignment with state and national standards.
  • Evaluates student progress through regular assessments and observations, using data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions.
  • Provides direct supervision and coaching to support staff, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to succeed.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports, including student progress, attendance, and behavioral data.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and community partners to develop and implement strategies that support student success.
  • Stays up-to-date with best practices in special education, participating in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Nebraska teaching license with endorsement in special education or current provisional special education certificate.
  • Two years of experience working with youth involved in the Child Welfare System (delinquent youth, status offenders, etc.).

Competencies

This role requires strong organizational, intuitive, and stress tolerance skills, as well as adaptability and professionalism. The ideal candidate will be able to maintain order in the classroom, keep to a schedule, and be flexible as situations arise. They will also demonstrate a clear understanding of trauma-informed care and its application in the classroom.

Estimated Salary Range:$65,000 - $80,000 per year

Work Environment

The work environment is typically moderate, with occasional exposure to noise and minimal physical demands. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
