About the Role:

Cook Children's Health Care System seeks a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for assigning accurate and timely ICD-10-CM and CPT 4 codes to patient medical records. This role requires advanced knowledge of coding systems, including ICD and CPT code sets, as well as Medicare/Medicaid rules and guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret patient medical record documentation to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures
  • Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT 4 codes accurately and timely to the highest level of specificity
  • Collaborate with physicians and Clinical Documentation Specialists on patient cases regarding documentation needs and requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding and documentation changes, rules, and guidelines

Requirements:

  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification required
  • Minimum one year of full-time ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 ambulatory surgery, observation, and/or inpatient coding and abstracting experience
  • Pediatric coding experience highly desired
  • Technical competence in electronic health record applications, automated encoders, and other software applications and hardware

Compensation:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $63,000 - $83,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Cook Children's Health Care System offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement savings plan and paid time off.
