Perinatal Education Specialist Labor

At CommonSpirit Health, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to our communities. We are seeking a Perinatal Education Specialist to join our team at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

The Perinatal Education Specialist will be responsible for implementing, promoting, and supporting perinatal patient safety and quality of care initiatives and programs. This specialized nursing role combines clinical expertise with a focus on patient safety to provide high-quality care and support to pregnant women and their families.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in perinatal nursing and experience in patient safety and quality improvement. They will be responsible for monitoring clinical outcomes, abstracting and analyzing data, and providing feedback to clinicians. The Perinatal Education Specialist will also participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of safety within the healthcare facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all care providers on Maternal Child Health adhere to national clinical standards and principles and practice of safety.
  • Serve as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in perinatal nursing obstetrics.
  • Implement and support patient safety and quality of care initiatives.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes.
  • Abstract, record, analyze, and report Perinatal Safety data per CommonSpirit Health guidelines.
  • Assess the documentation of charts reviewed and provide feedback to clinicians.
  • Encourage staff to identify and report adverse events and near-misses.
  • Perform collaborative reviews of adverse occurrences and near-misses. Incorporate findings into educational efforts.
  • Participate in Event Investigation Analysis (EIA).
  • Coordinate and evaluate briefing, debriefing, and analysis of selected charts with healthcare team members.
  • Contribute to Fetal Monitor (EFM) strip reviews and provide staff with feedback on findings.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required.
  • Masters degree or higher preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years as a clinician in Women's Services.
  • A minimum of 2 years of project experience in Women and Infants Perinatal Safety.
  • Registered Nurse with current California license required.
  • Certification in one of the following: CCRN-NEO, C-EFM, RN-BC MCN, RN-BC-PERI, RNC [OB, GYN, NEONATAL], RNC-LRN, RNC-MNN, RNC-NIC, RNC-OB.
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association Required.
  • NRP within 90 days.
  • Knowledge and experience working within a Patient Safety Organization required.
