Thermal Hydraulics Engineer

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Thermal Hydraulics Engineer to join the Research and Test Reactor Department. The successful candidate will perform thermal hydraulic analyses for new reactor designs, reactor feasibility studies, and conversion of existing research reactors to the use of new fuel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thermal hydraulic analyses for new reactor designs and reactor feasibility studies.
  • Develop and validate software for reactor design and safety performance analyses.
  • Support regulatory licensing efforts by predicting reactor performance and safety characteristics.
  • Collaborate with staff at Argonne and collaborating institutions to document and prepare reports, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree and 3+ years of experience, or Doctorate and 0+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid flow and heat transfer of nuclear system applications and reactor safety analyses.
  • Ability to work on a team and integrate work with other multi-disciplinary analyses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing thermal hydraulic analyses, including reactor transient and accident analyses.
  • Experience in computer programming for scientific and engineering applications.
  • Knowledge of scripting and task automation with modern tools.
