Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in PreOp and PACU care.

  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
  • Evaluate patients' preoperative and postoperative conditions at designated intervals, adhering to facility or healthcare organization protocols, including assessments of:
    • Cardiovascular health,
    • Respiratory function and airway management,
    • Neurological status,
    • Hemodynamic stability,
    • Pain and comfort levels, and
    • Mental health status.
  • Accurately interpret data from various noninvasive and invasive monitoring devices.
  • Explain the underlying pathophysiology of common medical conditions.
  • Detail the physiological implications of different anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
  • Utilize appropriate scoring systems and discharge criteria for patient transfers (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score, Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System) as per organizational guidelines.
  • Formulate an individualized perianesthesia care plan.
  • Execute the care plan, which includes:
    • Managing patient recovery from various anesthesia types (general, monitored anesthesia care, regional, local).
    • Ensuring patient safety during recovery, including protection from positioning injuries and thermal sources.
    • Communicating the patient's status throughout the perianesthesia care continuum.
    • Administering acute pain management and comfort measures as necessary.
    • Safely administering medications following the 8 rights of medication administration.
    • Maintaining the integrity of the patient's wound and ensuring tissue perfusion.
    • Monitoring and managing the patient's physiological systems and balances.
    • Ensuring normothermia at the end of the immediate postoperative period.
    • Implementing infection prevention strategies.
    • Addressing the patient's comorbid conditions as needed.
    • Providing education to patients and their support persons regarding care expectations and rehabilitation processes.
    • Respecting patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
    • Delivering culturally competent, ethical care within legal practice standards.
    • Ensuring consistent care quality across different settings.
  • Assess and document patient progress towards care outcomes.
  • Facilitate care transitions as required.
  • Provide accurate and concise hand-off reports to team members regarding patient conditions and responses to care.
  • Delegate tasks in accordance with state Nurse Practice Acts and organizational policies.
  • Document nursing care thoroughly and legibly.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams as necessary.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and performance reviews.
  • Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to enhance team dynamics.
  • Maintain professional competencies and pursue ongoing growth.
  • Advocate for patients while safeguarding their privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all facility policies and procedures in patient care delivery.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and safety discussions.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in all actions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Preoperative or PACU settings required.
  • Experience in medical/surgical nursing.
  • Current state nursing license in good standing. Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required if pediatric care is part of the facility's services within 90 days of employment.
