Job Summary

Nemours is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our primary care team at the main hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient flow by assisting in clinical data collection and review for patient intake, ensuring the appropriate information is available to the provider.
  • Enter pertinent history in the medical record and perform and assist with clinical procedures in accordance with divisional/department responsibilities as directed by the provider and per protocol.
  • Act as a liaison between the patient/family, provider, and other care team members, providing cross coverage as needed and serving as a coach and mentor to new medical assistant associates.
  • Perform essential functions, including:
    • Greeting patients and families at the clinical setting according to Nemours Standards of Behavior.
    • Verifying patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
    • Preparing exam rooms, clinic equipment, and computer technology by maintaining inventory and supplies for the outpatient visit.
    • Rooming patients ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient, including required diagnostic reports.
    • Receiving, unpacking, storing, inventorying, and transporting non-controlled substance medications.
    • Performing clinical duties to support the outpatient visit, including obtaining and documenting height, weight, head circumference, and vital signs, and documenting reason for visit, chief complaint, and initiating orders defined by the use of smart sets as appropriate for scope of service and Nemours' protocol.
    • Performing phlebotomy to obtain blood specimens, transcribing, collecting, labeling, and arranging for transportation of specimens.
    • Assisting with patient examination/treatment, performing and documenting point of care testing, administering and documenting vaccines and approved medications as defined by policy as ordered, and operating required medical equipment.
    • Accepting delegated tasks from nursing colleagues within their scope of service to assist in the flow of patient care.
    • Performing tasks associated with Nemours' outpatient business front desk functions, including making confirmation calls, ensuring all patient insurance information is loaded and up to date, and preparing, completing, and/or collecting consents and all other required documents.
    • Scanning insurance cards and other important documents, collecting and posting co-pays and past due balances, achieving Registration Accuracy according to annual goal, and scheduling follow-up appointments utilizing iGuide to determine participation, if appropriate.
    • Regularly communicating with clinical staffing the assigned work area regarding the status of waiting patients, particularly those who have been waiting more than ten minutes, and communicating with waiting patients/families to ensure they have status updated on their appointment.
    • Reconciling payment collections accurately at the end of each shift, as per Cash Collections Policy, and completing End of Day (EOD) Reports including DCRF and LDCRS.
    • Maintaining inventory of clerical supplies and ensuring the work environment and outpatient waiting room is in an orderly and clean condition to ensure patient safety and security.
    • Working with families to facilitate use of the Nemours App by providing QR codes and/or instructions for download and assisting in the sign-up process.
    • Maintaining computer and electronic system competency, including but not limited to processes for scheduling, appointment cancellations, and order entry for clinical system, use of iGuide, EOD status changes, work queue processing, linking referrals, posting 'other' payments, use of scanner device, and electronic insurance verifications, and assistance with live phone calls.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or certification as a medical assistant through an alternate pathway
  • BLS from American Heart Association within three months of employment and continue to maintain as required
  • Preferred Medical Assistant Certification: acceptable certifications are Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), and Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • 1-3 years of job-related experience
