Position Summary

Southern New Hampshire Services Head Start is seeking dedicated early childhood education professionals to fill an essential role within our vibrant team.

We have a Full Year Assistant Teacher position available.
Head Start offers numerous professional development opportunities to enhance your career in early childhood education.

Professional Development may include:

  • Credit-bearing coursework as part of a structured training plan with potential reimbursement.
  • Four designated training days annually.
  • Paid workshops including CPR and First Aid.
  • On-site coaching and classroom support.

This role encompasses 30 hours per week over 39 weeks each year.

Key Responsibilities

Role Summary:
The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of children in our program. This position involves collaborating with the classroom team to build trusting relationships with children and maintain effective classroom operations.

Qualifications for Assistant Teacher:
Applicants must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D., along with 9 credit hours in early childhood education coursework, including 3 hours focused on child growth and development. Candidates should be willing to pursue a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Physical Expectations:
In the SNHS Child Development program, a teacher should be prepared to:

  1. Kneel to engage with children at their eye level.
  2. Demonstrate physical activities such as running, hopping, and dancing.
  3. Respond swiftly to ensure child safety.
  4. Lift children in emergency situations.
  5. Provide comfort to children experiencing challenging behaviors.
  6. Assist children in emergency evacuations.
  7. Handle occasional physical interactions during play.
