Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Journeyman to join our team at the Fort Worth Independent School District. As an HVAC Journeyman, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining hydronic heating, refrigeration, chilled water air conditioning, ventilation, and HVAC controls, equipment, and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, install, and maintain HVAC systems, including hydronic heating, refrigeration, chilled water air conditioning, ventilation, and HVAC controls, equipment, and systems.
  • Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in District facilities.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks, including servicing, installing, and maintaining chilled water systems, boiler systems, and associated equipment.
  • Determine the amount and type of material needed for repair or modification of air and water delivery and temperature-control systems.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and spot check HVAC systems.
  • Recommend modifications that will improve system energy and performance characteristics.
  • Perform air and water balance tests for HVAC installations on new and remodeled District buildings when required.
  • Coordinate HVAC systems repairs with appropriate personnel, as necessary.
  • Complete necessary work according to instructions and use accepted trade practices in accordance with local codes.
  • Maintain refrigerant logs, start-up and preventative maintenance logs, and work orders.
  • Operate service vehicles with auto or manual transmission, tow and back trailers; rig heavy equipment for lifting; transport equipment safely.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed, including after hours and/or weekends.
Requirements
  • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
  • Associate's degree from accredited college or university in HVAC preferred.
  • Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required.
  • Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required.
  • CFC/EPA Universal certification for refrigerant required.
  • Maintenance electrician license preferred.
  • HVAC certificate from an accredited trade school or college preferred.
  • 5-7 years' chilled water applications experience required.
  • 5 years' experience required with certificate from accredited trade school or college, or 7 years' experience required if no certificate.
  • Experience as an Electrician Journeyman preferred.
  • Experience with commercial systems preferred.
Working Conditions

The HVAC Journeyman will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards. The position requires regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.
