Job Overview

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Lead Quality Engineer to join our Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality division. This role involves working onsite with a structured 9x80 schedule, providing the opportunity for every other Friday off. You will report directly to the Quality Manager and play a crucial role in implementing INL's quality initiatives while ensuring adherence to DOE, INL, and client-specific standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive quality documentation, including inspection and commercial grade dedication plans, by applying quality engineering principles alongside relevant codes and standards.
  • Conduct thorough quality evaluations of various work planning documents, engineering designs, and procurement specifications, ensuring compliance with standards such as ASME NQA-1 and B31.1.
  • Perform assessments, surveillances, and audits to verify that facility and project activities, along with associated documentation, align with the INL Quality Program.
  • Maintain necessary training and expertise in quality assurance practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality programs and systems, providing technical guidance to project and facility management regarding quality compliance and resolution of related issues.
  • Mentor peers and facility managers on effective methods to meet quality standards, and deliver training on the technical aspects of the INL Quality program.
  • Collaborate with senior management on significant quality matters requiring cross-organizational coordination.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to Quality (such as Chemistry or Engineering) with 5 years of relevant experience, or 11 years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Level 4: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to Quality with 9 years of relevant experience, or 15 years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in a Quality-related field, including engineering, operations, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with common INL NDE processes (e.g., LT, RT, MT, PT, UT, and VT) is essential, with MT, PT, and VT being mandatory.
  • Proficiency in implementing INL ATR Quality Assurance processes, including PDD-13000, LST-1118, NQA-1, and other national quality standards.
  • Radiation Worker II qualification (to be obtained within the first three months of employment).
  • INL Lead Assessor qualification (to be obtained within the first six months of employment).
  • INL/ATR Quality Engineer qualification (to be achieved within the first six months of employment).
  • INL Quality Assurance Auditor qualification (to be maintained within the first 12 months of employment).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which necessitates U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Salary Grade: Level 3 ($75,804 - $155,496); Level 4 ($91,008 - $186,588). Compensation is determined based on education, relevant experience, and credentials.

  • This is a testing designated position; candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and periodic testing throughout employment.
