Overview

Position Title: Polysomnography Specialist / Certified Respiratory Therapist

Work Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours per week, consisting of two 12-hour night shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for conducting sleep studies to assess various sleep disorders, adhering to established departmental protocols. This role involves providing care to patients across different age groups, including adolescents, adults, and seniors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates must possess the capability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following tasks:
  • Conducts both daytime and nocturnal polysomnography studies as per physician directives and departmental guidelines, utilizing various monitoring and recording equipment to capture detailed sleep event data.
  • Executes Multiple Sleep Latency Testing in accordance with physician orders and established procedural standards.
  • Engages with patients to explain the procedures and equipment involved in sleep studies, ensuring they are well-informed throughout the process.
  • Prepares and calibrates all necessary equipment prior to and following studies.
  • Facilitates routine fittings for positive airway pressure (PAP) masks.
  • Implements necessary interventions for patient safety and therapeutic measures, including oxygen administration and positive airway pressure treatments.
  • Maintains comprehensive and accurate documentation of all diagnostic studies and procedures as per departmental policies.
  • Prepares patients for outpatient screening sleep studies and assists in the analysis and scoring of results.
  • Coordinates patient scheduling and provides orientation and education as needed.
  • Scores clinical events such as respiratory and cardiac occurrences according to departmental standards.
  • Generates detailed reports summarizing sleep/wake data and clinical events.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: The following responsibilities are considered supplementary to the primary functions listed above:
  • Participates in emergency response situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Registers patients for services related to sleep disorders.
  • May be required to participate in on-call duties as necessary.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Candidates with a nursing background (RN/LPN) and one year of clinical experience are also eligible, provided they obtain RPSGT certification within 30 months of hire.
  • At least one year of patient care experience.
PREFERRED:
  • One to three years of experience in EEG technology.
  • Experience in managing sleep disorders for one to three years.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for one to three years.
