POSITION SUMMARY

The Crisis Intervention Specialist operates under the dual oversight of the University Health and Counseling Services and the Division of Public Safety. This role is integral to the Outreach Assessment Resources and Response team (OARR) at Case Western Reserve University. The specialist collaborates in the field with certified Crisis Intervention Trained officers to conduct wellness evaluations, assess potential risks, and implement de-escalation strategies to stabilize individuals and their surroundings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Deliver crisis intervention services as part of a collaborative response team to the university community and its surroundings. Engage with Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) certified officers to perform on-site risk evaluations, ensuring the safety of individuals and the broader community.
  2. Participate as a member of the Care and Crisis Management Team, documenting on-call services and providing necessary follow-up support for students.
  3. Establish and maintain partnerships with campus and community resources to enhance crisis response efforts.
  4. Provide direct mental health services to students, addressing a variety of wellness needs through initial consultations, crisis management sessions, and outreach initiatives.
  5. Engage in ongoing professional development and training, contributing to the mission of the Crisis Response Team.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Consult with various stakeholders, including parents and faculty, to ensure comprehensive care and coordination of services.
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned.

CONTACTS

This position requires daily interaction with CIT certified officers and staff from University Health and Counseling Services, as well as frequent communication with other university departments and external health professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: A minimum of four years in mental health care, preferably within a higher education setting.

Education: A Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work with an independent license or license-eligible status in the state.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong risk assessment and clinical consultation abilities.
  • Capacity to maintain composure and provide effective care during crisis situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in all interactions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Assessments may occur in various settings, including homes and community spaces. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including potential evening and weekend shifts.
