Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a key member of our environmental engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase environmental engineering work processes, due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and preserving the environment.
  • Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on field conditions, movement, and outcome of overall risks to ecological and human health.
  • Assists project leadership with environmental site assessment, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, development of process and infrastructure, and assisting with recommendations to avert degradation of air, water, and land resources.
  • Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

You will determine well-defined data collection methods for collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.

You will perform professional environmental engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources and proposed and existing site conditions, water resources, and underground storage tanks to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

You will assist with environmental site assessments (Phase I and II) and research environmental hazmat databases regarding historical property land uses.

You will prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.

You will maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering, or closely related discipline.

5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in environmental engineering is required.

Professional Engineer License is required.

40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) is required.

Proficient knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues is required.

Working knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs is required.

Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements is required.

Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations is required.

Experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards is required.

Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work is required.

Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies is required.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience is required.

Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment is required.

Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC is required.

Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools is required.

Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution is required.

Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently is required.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies is required.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek is required.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
