School Support Specialist

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to a student in the classroom, assisting with academic tasks, behavior management, and social-emotional development.
  • Assist the student in adhering to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Implement ProACT de-escalation and restraint techniques when necessary.
  • Support the student in transitions between activities and during unstructured times.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other school staff to ensure the student's needs are being met.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on the student's progress and any behavioral incidents.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Washington State Paraeducator Certificate.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • ProACT de-escalation and restraint training required.
  • Previous experience working with students requiring behavioral and/or academic support is preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and professional demeanor in challenging situations.
