Job Description

The Office of the Inspector General is a dynamic organization that offers a unique opportunity for individuals to make a meaningful impact in the field of law enforcement. As a Senior Criminal Investigator, you will be part of a team that investigates alleged criminal violations and misconduct within the Department of Justice.

The Investigations Division (INV) receives over 13,000 complaints annually, opens approximately 250 investigations, and makes an average of over 90 arrests. As a Senior Criminal Investigator, you will play a critical role in conducting multi-jurisdictional and multi-defendant investigations, including undercover operations, surveillance assignments, search and seizure, and interrogations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to build strong cases against suspects
  • Plan and conduct complex surveillance operations, including tracking and monitoring targets
  • Analyze initial allegations, determining the necessary investigative resources and collateral support required
  • Prepare detailed reports and present findings to managers, prosecutors, and other high-level officials
Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. This includes experience in conducting investigations, analyzing evidence, and preparing reports.

In addition to your experience, you must meet all qualification requirements, including meeting or exceeding the cut score on the required assessments.

You must also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
