Surgical Technologist Position

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing exceptional patient care, and supporting our medical team.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of the operating room, including the selection of surgical instruments and equipment, and the maintenance of a safe and sterile environment.
- Perform preoperative preparation of patients, including skin preparation, draping, and positioning, in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Hand instruments to the surgeon as requested, prepare suture material for use, and assist with gowning and gloving of the surgical team.
- Perform related duties associated with basic patient care, including transporting patients, running errands, and checking emergency carts for needed supplies.
- Prepare supplies for sterilization, including washing and wrapping instruments, and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Assess the environmental needs of the area and recommend and/or initiate appropriate action.
- Orient new Surgical Technologists by explaining department policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
- Certified by the Association of Surgical Technologists or National Center for Competency Testing.
- Two years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient surgical setting preferred.
- Skills and abilities include the ability to work accurately and efficiently under time constraints, and often in stressful situations, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
