About the Role:

The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead its geriatric psychiatry services. As a key member of the department's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the medical and geropsychiatric services across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of medical and geropsychiatric services across the state
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve clinical outcomes and patient care
  • Collaborate with state and community partners to ensure holistic care for the geriatric population
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of psychiatric and medical professionals
  • Support on-call and holiday coverage as needed

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved/recognized medical school
  • Completed psychiatric residency program
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Virginia by the Virginia Board of Medicine
  • Federally licensed to prescribe medications
  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior administrative and supervisory experience
  • Clinical experience in forensic psychiatry
  • Dual certification in psychiatry and geriatrics
