Job Summary

The Research Veterinarian plays a critical role in providing medical services in support of the health of animals involved in research studies. This position requires a strong background in veterinary medicine, with expertise in clinical research, animal care, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with research scientists, research coordinators, and technicians to ensure animal well-being and successful execution of research projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, well-being, and welfare of research animals
• Assist with the development of research protocols and monitoring of procedures
• Assist with sample and data collection, data analysis, and reporting of research findings
• Write research papers, reports, or articles for publication in scientific journals
• Present findings at conferences or seminars
• Ensure compliance with all regulations and ethical guidelines governing animal research
• Provide clinical care and treatment to research animals as needed, including diagnosing disease and injuries
• Train staff on animal handling and care procedures, as well as educate researchers on best practices in animal care
• Maintain detailed records of research animals' health, treatments, and outcomes for regulatory compliance and research integrity
• Identify, develop, and implement innovative solutions to improve research outcomes

Requirements

• DVM and eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of IL
• At least 2 years of clinical research experience preferred
• Veterinary diagnostic skills to assess illness in research animals
• Ability to treat illness, injuries, and conditions in research animals
• Ability to handle and care for various species, including ruminants, swine, and poultry
• Clinical research experience with both ruminants and monogastric animals
• Knowledge of ABSL-1 and ABSL-2 requirements

Physical Requirements

• Operations of laboratory equipment
• Required to sit frequently
• Required to stand frequently
• Required to talk or hear constantly
