Under the guidance of the healthcare provider and/or practice manager, this role involves assisting in patient care tasks and providing administrative oversight throughout the practice. Responsibilities include supporting the provider during patient examinations and treatments, performing various delegated tasks, and conducting patient interviews to gather vital signs and document information in medical records. Additionally, this position prepares examination rooms for patient consultations and will be cross-trained to improve operational efficiency and continuity of care delivery.
- Patient care responsibilities encompass: preparing patients and examination areas for provider consultations, documenting medical histories and vital signs, scheduling necessary appointments (e.g., laboratory tests, imaging), explaining procedures, assisting providers during specialized procedures (including minor surgeries), removing sutures, cleaning wounds, applying dressings, notifying patients of laboratory results, administering vaccinations, and monitoring patients before, during, and after treatment.
- Authorize and dispense medications as directed by the provider.
- Facilitate the smooth operation of patient scheduling, collaborating with the practice team to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations for all patients and their families.
- Engage in compliance with regulatory standards and quality management initiatives while maintaining financial accountability.
- Act as a resource for staff regarding patient care and clinical policies, serving as a liaison between patients, the practice, and community resources.
- Oversee scheduling, attendance, provide daily guidance and support, work with the practice manager, and assist with performance discussions.
Contribute to performance evaluations.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited LPN program (or equivalent) with a current Ohio license.
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a medical or physician office environment.
- Current Ohio LPN license.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a physician practice and familiarity with electronic medical records is preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and HIPAA regulations is preferred.
