Experienced Barge Deckhand

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Barge Deckhand to join our team at Heidelberg Materials US, Inc. in Romeoville, IL.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate barges safely and efficiently, following established procedures and protocols.
• Handle and transport materials to various docks via water transportation.
• Work in a dusty and outdoor environment, adhering to safety policies and regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by vessel captain or management.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Requirements

• Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs. during a normal shift.
• Willingness to work on the waterway for up to 30 consecutive days, living aboard the vessel.
• Ability to enter small dark areas and climb horizontal and vertical ladders into and onto barges.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Previous experience in the barge towing industry is preferred.
• US Coast Guard regulated vessel experience is a plus.
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
