Closure Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Closure Specialist to join our team at Freeport-McMoRan. As a Closure Specialist, you will be responsible for performing duties related to the safe closure of open mines, conducting detailed field surveys, and supporting the Historic Mine-Openings Safety Program (HMOSP).

• Conduct field surveys using GPS instrumentation to collect and verify data.
• Perform safe closure of historic mine-openings using various technologies.
• Operate pickup trucks with trailers and other equipment such as UTVs.
• Travel to remote locations over rough terrain and conduct labor-intensive work.
• Complete construction and work site preparation.
• Recommend methods and procedures for conducting assigned surveys and closure activities.
• Communicate findings to Engineering and operational personnel.
• Perform minor maintenance and assist operations with support activities.

• One year of experience with historic mine-openings closure activities or one year of experience in an industrial or large commercial work environment.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude.
• Demonstrated advanced skills in construction and/or fabrication.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 90% of the time.
• Must have an unrestricted and valid driver's license.
• Must be able to travel for three-week periods.
• Must be able to hike three to five miles per day in rugged terrain.
• Must be able to carry loads over 50 lbs. in a backpack.
• Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in training and during the normal course of completing assigned duties.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Prior work experience with fabrication and masonry.
• Knowledge of carpentry and/or masonry techniques.
• Experience with outdoor activities.
• Ability to read and understand maps.
• Experience with safely operating pickup trucks pulling trailers and operating UTVs.
• Familiarity with hand tools and power tools.
