Job Summary:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Deliver specialized instruction to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students with diverse learning needs.
  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques to enhance students' sensory, motor, language, cognitive, and academic skills.
  • Adapt and modify the general education curriculum to accommodate the individual learning needs of students.
  • Utilize positive behavior reinforcement and behavior modification strategies to teach socially acceptable behaviors.
  • Conduct regular assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to provide comprehensive support for students with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student performance and progress.
  • Engage in professional development activities to remain current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the IEP process and special education laws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • Valid Virginia teaching license with a Special Education endorsement (K-12).
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
  • Additional certifications in special education areas (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities) are advantageous.
