About the Role:

Job Summary

A unit-based practitioner responsible for specialized education and training within the nursing department. The Clinical Nurse Educator plays a pivotal role in identifying, addressing, and resolving educational challenges as they arise. This position involves delivering ongoing education through both formal and informal channels and is accountable for the development of clinical staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator oversees unit-specific skills and competency assessments, collaborating closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists to meet the needs of both staff and patients. This role also supports and facilitates orientation programs for new staff members, possessing in-depth knowledge of specific patient demographics. The Clinical Nurse Educator promotes high standards of nursing care delivery and is adept at managing complex patient situations, providing education to patients and families, and creating effective learning experiences for nursing staff and students. Direct patient care may be provided as necessary, and assistance is offered to similar units in meeting their educational requirements. The role encompasses care for patients across various age groups, including infants, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. The educator adheres to established clinical guidelines and national safety standards while fostering a professional practice environment aligned with nursing strategic goals. Support is provided for professional governance structures and quality improvement teams, including coaching team members and participating in practice councils. The Clinical Nurse Educator also contributes to clinical governance and other assigned projects.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Must be a licensed RN in Georgia with professional certification in a clinical or educational specialty.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum Experience: At least 3 years of RN experience with relevant clinical exposure to the specific unit.
  • Other: Membership in a professional organization.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC).
  • Preferred Educational Requirements: A Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field for those holding a BSN.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience in staff development and education.
  • Other: Membership in the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD).

  • Acts as a liaison among patients/families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
  • Monitors the development and implementation of protocols to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
  • Evaluates patient responses to nursing interventions and suggests modifications to care plans as necessary.
  • Assesses educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored teaching and ongoing evaluation of its effectiveness.
  • Participates in relevant hospital and community committees to ensure accurate communication of information.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise to assist nursing staff, students, and new hires with challenging procedures.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care conferences and staff development programs, providing constructive feedback.
  • Conducts regular staff development sessions, including unit-specific infection control training.
  • Assesses the technical skills of nursing staff and provides feedback for performance evaluations.
  • Supports quality assurance initiatives by adhering to established performance improvement standards.
  • Evaluates staffing needs based on patient acuity and assigns staff accordingly.
  • Monitors compliance with established nursing and patient care standards.
  • Assists in orienting new personnel, providing guidance and supervision as needed.
  • Delivers on-the-spot instruction and demonstrations of techniques and procedures.
