Deputy Controller

Under the general direction of an Assistant County Administrator, the Deputy Controller oversees the acquisition and documentation of records for all County assets and infrastructure. This position is responsible for managing the annual Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) budget, overseeing large capital projects, and performing general and grant accounting functions.

The Deputy Controller monitors debt service, ensuring timely reconciliations and accurate financial statements for the CIP and Debt Service Funds. They also provide leadership for the administration and management of the capital asset and project accounting functions of the County.

This role requires a strong understanding of governmental and public finance, as well as knowledge of regulations and best practices surrounding local governmental capital asset budgeting, accounting, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience with project and cost accounting within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise County Staff Accountants and Finance administrative staff
• Manage the capital asset and project accounting functions of the County
• Monitor debt service and ensure timely reconciliations and accurate financial statements
• Provide leadership for the administration and management of the capital asset and project accounting functions
• Stay informed and up to date of standards, procedures, trends, and ideas within the trade

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in governmental fund accounting, grant management, budget development, analysis, and use of computerized accounting software
• Minimum six years of experience in governmental accounting or related field
• Knowledge of regulations and best practices surrounding local governmental capital asset budgeting, accounting, and reporting
• Experience with project and cost accounting within the construction industry
