About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Tech First Assist to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare teams to perform safe and effective surgical procedures.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, ensuring they are properly positioned and prepared for the procedure.
  • Provide visualization of the operative field, ensuring the surgeon has a clear view of the area being operated on.
  • Harvest saphenous veins for coronary artery grafting purposes, under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
  • Apply appropriate wound dressings and secure drainage systems or intra-aortic balloon pumps to tissue.
  • Adapt behavior to meet the specific needs of each patient population, demonstrating respect for patient privacy and dignity.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assistant program.
  • 5 years of experience working in surgery, with a preference for 2 years of experience in Surgical First Assisting.
  • Certified Surgical Assistant or Certified First Assistant certification, as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
