Position Overview

The City of Brentwood is on the lookout for a dedicated Accounting Technician to join our Finance and Information Systems Department. This role is situated within the Business Services Division, which is integral to managing the City's budget, financial reporting, and the creation of various public-facing documents. Your expertise will be crucial in executing a range of technical accounting tasks that support the City's financial and budgetary operations. Your contributions will play a significant role in the preparation of diverse financial analyses and reports, collaborating with a team to generate and disseminate documents, while ensuring effective inter-departmental communication and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Business Services Division in the development and distribution of City financial documents, focusing on:
    1. Infusing creativity to ensure all documents are innovative and visually engaging for the public.
    2. Facilitating communication and coordination of information across all City departments to uphold document production schedules.
    3. Preparing annual document files and coordinating edits from the Business Services team and other City departments.
  • Conduct detailed, timely, and accurate daily analyses of the City's operating bank account transactions in collaboration with all City departments.
  • Prepare, process, maintain, and verify a variety of financial, accounting, budgetary, and statistical documents and reports.
  • Support the Business Services Division by assisting with special projects and undertaking a variety of responsible and complex administrative and technical tasks.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and time management skills, demonstrating a keen attention to detail and efficiency. Additionally, the position requires a resourceful and creative mindset to be applied to the various financial documents produced. Strong communication skills and a willingness to explore new methodologies and acquire new skills are also highly valued. Experience in governmental accounting is advantageous, though not mandatory.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Three years of experience performing increasingly responsible accounting support services.

  1. Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.
  2. Written Exam - Applicants meeting these requirements will be invited to take the written test. The examination will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description.
All applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list, which is valid for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be utilized by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list remains active.
