About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our team in the Emergency Department at Duke Health. As a Paramedic, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice as defined by the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Assist clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients.
  • Obtain pertinent history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform technical procedures as delegated.
  • Monitor patients and maintain records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records.
  • Document patients' status, delivery of care, and evaluation of patients' response to care according to specific procedures and established protocols.
  • Communicate in a professional manner essential information to all appropriate members of the healthcare team to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care.
  • Operate extensive medical and mechanical equipment in the hospital and transport environment.
  • Ensure all medical equipment is functioning, restock medical supplies as needed.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.
Requirements
  • Current certification as a North Carolina Paramedic or have the ability to obtain certification in the State of North Carolina.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS required upon hire.
  • Current trauma course preferred: PHTLS, BTLS, or ITLS.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Preferred one-year experience as a Paramedic or other relevant clinical experience.
Working Conditions

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, balancing, and pulling. Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.

Must be able to lift and support the weight up to 75 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
