NICU Nursing Manager

Position Summary:
- Evaluates, organizes, and oversees the clinical and operational activities of the nursing unit to guarantee high-quality, cost-effective healthcare is delivered by a skilled and knowledgeable team.
- Ensures a secure environment and executes all related responsibilities safely.
- Maintains clinical and professional expertise relevant to the age, developmental stages, and unique needs of the patients served.
- Consistently exemplifies and advocates for a Professional Practice model that enables nurses to collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Ensures that unit operations and personnel adhere to the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory agency standards, and established policies and procedures.
- Acts as a collaborative team member to fulfill the goals and objectives of the unit and organization, maintaining quality management, patient care, and departmental standards.
- Takes charge of recruiting and retaining qualified staff, ensuring appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and ongoing professional development through mutual goal setting and performance assessments.
- Effectively delegates responsibilities by fostering shared governance and developing research initiatives to positively influence clinical outcomes.
- Administers nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and dispenses medications as required.
- Provides and evaluates the effectiveness of patient and family education.
- Engages in performance improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of nursing care, promote patient outcomes, and maintain a cost-effective care environment.
- Contributes to the formulation of policies, procedures, and standards that reflect evidence-based practices.
- Encourages shared accountability for professional practice.
- Allocates resources to meet the needs of the unit, overseeing budgetary considerations, and is accountable to the organization for maintaining a cost-effective unit.
- Physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be capable of lifting and supporting the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
- Requires finger dexterity, critical thinking, and the ability to focus.
- Must be able to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit/department conditions.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is mandatory.
- Current RN licensure in the appropriate state is required.
- A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is preferred.
- Must possess or complete an MSN if the undergraduate degree is not a BSN.
- Enrollment in an MSN program within one year of hire/transfer date and graduation from the MSN program within five years of hire is required.
- If the undergraduate degree is a BSN, a master's degree from a health-related program or an MBA is acceptable.
- Previous management experience is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Providers from AHA is required.
- Appropriate professional certification (either clinical or leadership) is required within one year of eligibility for the certification exam.
- Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.
