Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Specialist plays a pivotal role under the guidance of the Quality Assurance Manager, focusing on enhancing product quality and managing food safety protocols. This position encompasses responsibilities such as data management, analysis, and reporting, and is integral to the SQF system, food safety initiatives, auditing processes, and quality enhancement projects. The role demands strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills, along with the ability to effectively engage with various departments and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine quality control systems by:
    • Creating and implementing innovative quality testing methods and procedures, including validation processes.
    • Facilitating the analysis of testing and inspection methods to ensure reliability and accuracy.
    • Utilizing statistical techniques to identify and rectify quality control issues.
    • Monitoring quality assessment tools to evaluate operational performance and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Providing expert guidance during root cause analysis and problem-solving sessions.
  • Manage and execute quality development projects related to the Quality & Food Safety Management System by:
    • Conducting audits and gap analyses to pinpoint risks and areas for enhancement.
    • Leveraging quality reports to identify insights that lead to reduced customer complaints and non-conformances.
    • Employing project management methodologies to effectively allocate time and resources for project completion.
    • Designing and executing validation studies, gathering and interpreting data, and preparing comprehensive reports.
    • Collaborating with Operations to address underperforming processes through continuous improvement strategies.
    • Supporting the WCM program by preparing essential practices and training Operations staff on Quality at Source initiatives.
    • Participating in special projects within the organization as needed.
  • Oversee quality-related new product and existing product development activities, serving as the Quality liaison:
    • Working closely with R&D to ensure quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance in new product development.
    • Identifying critical control points and customer-specific requirements for inclusion in HACCP and Quality Monitoring plans.
    • Collaborating with stakeholders to manage labeling and artwork requirements.
    • Facilitating the approval process for new suppliers and ingredients.
    • Coordinating with Commercialization Managers to ensure quality and food safety considerations are integrated throughout project phases.
    • Working with site Quality teams to implement necessary changes to Quality and Food Safety Management Systems during product launches.

Qualifications:

  • Formal education or certification in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or food technology.
  • Certification as an SQF Practitioner.
  • HACCP training (level 2 or 3).
  • Experience as a certified internal auditor.
  • Preferred certifications include HACCP or Quality System Lead Auditor and Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
  • Experience in the Food & Beverage sector is essential.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools, including measurement systems analysis (MSA) and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Visio is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of Quality & Food Safety Management Systems in a manufacturing context.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations (FDA / USDA).
  • Preferred experience in food/beverage microbiology and hygiene.
  • Proven ability in root cause analysis and quality improvement project execution.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to new challenges.
  • Strong focus on quality and proactive in implementing sustainable practices.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and reports.
