Position Overview

The role focuses on overseeing the software systems within the z/OS environment, ensuring optimal performance and resource management.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Maintenance: Take charge of the z/OS 2.3 and JES2 software ecosystem, ensuring its stability and performance.
  • Software Installation: Implement new z/OS releases (2.3, 2.4, 2.5) and configure them to meet operational needs.
  • Version Upgrades: Manage the upgrade process for z/OS from version 2.3 to 2.5 and beyond, as well as z/VM maintenance updates.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with application developers to prevent application issues from impacting production systems.
  • Support Availability: Provide comprehensive software support on a 24/7/365 basis.
  • Application Development: Assist in the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of applications interfacing with system software.
  • Security Policies: Develop and maintain software usage and security authorization policies.
  • System Upgrades: Create, maintain, and enhance software systems for both development and production environments.
  • Policy Recommendations: Analyze requirements and suggest policies, procedures, and standards for software systems.
  • Backup Procedures: Implement and verify backup and recovery protocols, including business recovery testing.
  • Ownership: Assume responsibility for all mainframe systems, including multiple z/OS sysplexes.
  • System Reliability: Ensure systems are up-to-date with the latest IBM maintenance to maintain reliability and availability.
  • Operational Support: Provide level 1 support for z/VM and zLinux systems.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve system-related issues promptly and efficiently.
