Job Summary:

This position involves providing medical care and medication management to offenders within a correctional center. The physician will work in a doctor's office practice, supported by a nurse manager, and will be responsible for analyzing patient data, diagnosing and treating health care problems, and prescribing medications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional medical care and medication management to offenders
  • Analyze and interpret patient data to develop appropriate diagnoses
  • Diagnose and treat acute health care problems, such as illnesses, infections, or injuries
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost
  • Assist with preparation and modification of treatment plans
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical college
  • Completion of an approved residency in a primary care specialty, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or similar specialty
  • Active license to practice medicine in Virginia, and board eligible or certified

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a correctional environment
  • Experience treating in a public health care setting

Working Conditions:

This position is located within a correctional facility and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of patient volume.
